Gene sequencing surveys of four granular samples from lab-scale upflow anaerobic bioreactors

Summary:

To characterize microbial communities with nonculturing methods, we perform surveys four granular samples from lab-scale upflow anaerobic bioreactors (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket [USAB]) that are currently being operated at your facilities. We are using Sanger sequencing methods to unravel the full-length sequences of the 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene with the goal to characterize the archaeal (methanogenic) and bacterial community. We propose to sequence a total of ~ 900 sequences per sample to include the majority of bacteria and archaea that are present in the granules (and therefore a total of ~ 3,600 full-length 16S rRNA gene sequences).
